Obtaining a Driving Licence C+E

Driving licence C+E is the most comprehensive HGV licence you can get. It permits you to drive a lorry that has a trailer or semi-trailer of more than 750 kilograms.

The course for Category CE is an natural progression from the course that leads to Category C. It involves driving on roads with various traffic density and on training tracks.

Requirements

A driving licence is a legal document that shows that a driver has fulfilled the legal requirements for driving. The requirements differ from one country to the next but they all involve passing the driving test and not having any traffic violations on record. The tests are usually divided into theory and practice but there are some exceptions to this rule. The first step towards obtaining the license is to take an instruction in driving, and pass the theory test. A driver must be physically fit to drive. Some countries require proof of fitness, for example, a medical exam.

The next step is to get the Category C license, or a Car driver's licence. This allows you to drive trucks, passenger vehicles and trailers that weigh up to 7.5 tonnes. If you already have a Cat C licence, you can upgrade to a Category C + E licence, which allows you to drive articulated heavy-goods vehicles that weigh up to 44 tonnes.

In order to get a Category C licence, you must be 21 years old. This is the minimum requirement. However, you may be able obtain one earlier if you've completed or are currently undergoing training required for the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence. You must also have an active copyright to be eligible for the category C+E license.

The C+E driving licence is the most hgv-advanced category available. It is a combination of the C and E categories, and is the most comprehensive hgv license you can get. You must hold a Category C license to qualify for a C+E license. You must also pass a driving test as well as medical examination.

Medical exam

This will help prevent fraudulent and untruthful claims that the driver is medically certified even though the driver isn't. The SDLA will be required to provide the contact details of the ME who performed the medical examination on the driver's records, to further discourage fraud. This requirement will remain in place until FMCSA adopts new rules to deal with this issue. In the meantime, motor carriers can keep an original or copy of the medical examiner's certification in their driver qualification files as evidence that a driver is medically qualified provided that the copyright can prove the date of receipt of the certificate from the ME.
